Symbolism
The Father bestows mercy upon Mary at her conception; the Holy Spirit overshadows her at the Annunciation. She holds the Child Jesus in her arms as His mother, and He gazes upon her through His mercy as His most pure child.

No one has experienced mercy in the same way as Mary; she is uniquely linked with the mystery of the Cross – where Justice receives the ‘kiss of Mercy’.

Mary is turned always towards us as Mother, and at the same time, turned entirely towards her Son.

The logo is based on a cross and a medallion shape, reminding us that the whole mystery of mercy is synchronised with the mystery of redemption.

Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy

How do we understand Mary as Mother of Mercy?

She is the masterpiece of God’s mercy. She perfectly receives, cooperates with and guards God’s gift of mercy to her from the beginning of her existence.

She instructs us in how to live the Father’s mercy; her life is a concrete example of Christian discipleship, modelling the life of virtue.

As Theotokos, she nurtures Mercy Himself, and is given as our Mother by His mercy.

Because she is our Mother, she distributes God’s mercy and continues to come to our aid with her intercessory prayers for all our needs, body and soul, until the hour of our death.
